WILL YOU BE ONE OF OUR NEW COMMUNITY PHARMACY NEIGHBOURHOOD HEALTH CHAMPIONS?

In support of the move to Neighbourhood Health, part of the NHS key driver in improving health and care on a local footprint, CP Shropshire has secured funding from Shropshire Telford & Wrekin ICB to engage a network of Community Pharmacy Neighbourhood Health Champions to be the key link between community pharmacies in their patch and all key stakeholders working in Integrated Neighbourhood Teams (INTs). We expect these champions to be:

  • Active providers of all core national pharmacy services, particularly Pharmacy First, Hypertension Case Finding, Contraception and DMS – and be able to  demonstrate active engagement in local services.
  • Collaborative and influential professionals with a strong track record of working across organisational, professional and cultural boundaries to deliver results.
  • Experienced in engaging and influencing healthcare professionals to drive change, making sound judgements in complex situations, and bringing forward new ideas.
  • Recognised for sensitivity to different professional roles, personal resourcefulness in leading change, and credibility in building effective partnerships across sectors, with a strong understanding of NHS commissioning and partnership working.

Whilst we expect pharmacy professionals to be the most likely candidates, others working within community pharmacy may well have the skills and attributes to be effective in these roles. Ideally candidates will be working within the neighbourhood with which they wish to focus, however CP Shropshire may consider individuals working across more than one neighbourhood area for the same pharmacy business, should they wish to combine roles. A role description is in development, however the key expectation is that the Champions will focus on communications and engagement between local contractors and INT stakeholders.

The neighbourhood areas are:

  • Shrewsbury
  • North Shropshire
  • South West Shropshire (to include Shropshire Rural)
  • South East Shropshire
  • Telford North
  • Telford South

We expect the Champions to be engaged on a half-day sessional basis initially, probably for two sessions per month for six months from July to December 2026; the Champions’ employing contractors should provide an invoice for backfill and essential travel costs as per the Committee’s expense policy. Training will be provided by CP Shropshire, hopefully in June or early July 2026.
