Urgent message re Winter Pressures – 3rd January 2025
From James Milner, Shropshire Telford & Wrekin ICB Head of Pharmacy Integration and Workforce:
Dear Pharmacy Teams,
Due to increased pressures across our Urgent and Emergency Care sites in Shropshire Telford and Wrekin, community pharmacies may see an increase in demand for Pharmacy First services and minor ailments advice over the coming days.
Whilst I understand it is preferable for patients to be seen in pharmacy via a formal referral, there may be instances where patients self-present as a walk in for one of the 7 clinical conditions or over the counter advice. If a patient does self-present, and can be assessed/treated safely, pharmacies are asked to manage these patients as clinically appropriate.
In preparation for the potential increase in requests from the public, could you ensure that all staff due to work over the next few days have knowledge of Pharmacy First processes and have access to systems necessary to complete consultations.
I understand this is a challenging time for community pharmacy. Your support in this matter is greatly appreciated
Many thanks
James Milner
